“SCRIP” is money in the form of a gift card – just like the ones you purchase at your favorite store. Our school is able to buy these cards at a negotiated discount and resell them to you at full face value.  The discount, which averages 5%, is the profit retained by our school.  If, for example, you buy $100 worth of J.C. Penney gift cards (SCRIP), you still have your full $100 in SCRIP to spend at J.C. Penney on whatever you want, just like cash.  Since our school bought the SCRIP for $95, J.C. Penney has, in essence, donated $5 to our school.

We’re glad you asked! You earn money toward your tuition every time you purchase a gift card through Scrip.  The profit generated from your SCRIP purchases is split 50/50 between St. James School and your Family Tuition Savings Account. For instance, of the $5 that was generated by the family who purchased the $100 J.C. Penney gift card (through Scrip) $2.50 will go toward their Family Tuition Savings Account and $2.50 will go toward the school’s operating expenses.
